TSTC Statement of Support for NYC’s First Bus Rapid Transit Corridor
Tri-State Transportation Campaign (TSTC) is pleased to see the Bronx launch of Select Bus Service--New York City’s first ever bus rapid transit route (BRT). Bus rapid transit is what all New York City buses should be: fast, frequent, and reliable. Transit riders in the outer boroughs have long waited for improved bus service to alleviate the crowded and delayed service many contend with daily.
At last, Bronx residents will have a speedy, comfortable one-seat ride from East to West Bronx -- a commute that currently involves numerous subway and bus transfers and can take up to 65 minutes - -and connections to seven subways and 14 NYC bus routes facilitating greater access around the borough and beyond.
After many years of advocating for BRT, we are pleased to see NYC join other modernized transit networks around the world. Bronx Select Bus can be the first step in a broad network strategy bringing better bus service to all of NYC and the region. TSTC applauds the efforts of transit advocates, community groups, elected officials, and the visionary leadership of those within the NYC Dept. of Transportation and NYC Transit responsible for this effort.
