Statement on Gov. Malloy’s Announcement on the New Britain-Hartford Bus Rapid Transit Project

Governor Malloy has just signed off on a brighter future for Central Connecticut. His support for the New Britain-Hartford Bus Rapid Transit project, and a study of the Waterbury and Bristol rail lines, is just the most recent example of the Governor’s leadership on sustainable transportation and land use issues.

The Hartford-New Britain Bus Rapid Transit project is expected to carry over 16,000 riders a day, generate up to 6,000 jobs, and lay the groundwork for transit-oriented development throughout Central Connecticut.

Governor Malloy should be applauded for aggressively pursuing federal funds to ensure that Connecticut has a world-class, 21st-century transit system that supports sustainable, smart growth.

The Tri-State Transportation Campaign is a nonprofit organization working toward a more balanced, transit-friendly, and equitable transportation system in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
