Using statewide Crash Records, TSTC analyzed bicycle-car crashes in Northern New Jersey counties (2001-2011) and Southern New Jersey counties (2001-2010). The county fact sheets provide an overview of crashes in each county as well as identify the roads with the most bicycle crashes for the three most recent years (Northern New Jersey counties 2009-2011, Southern New Jersey counties 2008-2010). TSTC also created online maps that allow users to "zoom in" to see individual intersections or "zoom out" to get a wider view.
From 2001 to 2011 there were 19,551 bicycle crashes in 13 Northern New Jersey counties (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren). Of these, 81 were fatal. All accidents are bicyclist-vehicle.

From 2001 to 2010 there were 7,830 bicycle crashes1 in eight Southern New Jersey counties (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem). During this period there were 60 fatal crashes.
The maps show the locations of bicyclists in accidents from 2008-2010. Crash locations are described by the street and cross street (when given) provided by NJDOT's Crash Records. Crash locations were mapped by the street and cross street or latitude and longitude given in NJDOT's Crash Records. When a crash occurred in a block and longitude and latitude were not given, mileposts were used to find the location of the crash, when possible.
A red dot denotes a bicyclist killed in an accident; a blue dot denotes a bicyclist involved but not killed in an accident. All accidents are bicyclist-vehicle.
