TRI-STATE TRANSPORTATION CAMPAIGN'S

Transportation and Environmental Justice Summer Fellowship Program

For the second summer, TSTC will host three fellows to participate in our Transportation and Environmental Justice Fellowship program. They will work closely with our staff on current campaigns to get a hands-on experience of how TSTC operates on a daily basis. Throughout the program, the fellows will be assigned various projects that focus on environmental and transportation justice, where they will be able to cultivate and develop essential advocacy skills (research and analysis, communication and storytelling, organizing, and coalition building). We’ll also be connecting them with industry leaders and showing them what it’s like to work at an advocacy organization by bringing them to rallies and coalition meetings, giving them the opportunity to give public testimony, and meeting with various stakeholders. We also have planned excursions around the tri-state region to understand our environment further.

We aim to empower the fellows to impact their communities positively. By investing in the next generation of leaders, TSTC creates a lasting impact on the future of transportation and the environment in the tri-state region.

MEET OUR 2024 SUMMER FELLOWS:

Stephanie Chernyavsky

Stephanie is a senior at CUNY Hunter College, majoring in the Human Dimensions track of Environmental Studies with a minor in Public Policy. She plans to go to law school upon the completion of her undergraduate degree, with the goal of ultimately becoming a public interest lawyer. She hopes to use her education regarding environmental science and policy to work towards solutions to environmental justice issues, as well as gain experience in advocacy work and create positive change. Stephanie aims to begin working towards this goal by taking part in sustainability and accessible transportation-based projects with Tri-State Transportation Campaign.

Timothy Nikonorov

Tim is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center. He is currently majoring in Political Science and minoring in Urban Studies. In the future, Tim hopes to become a servant of social justice in whatever way he can. Transportation justice has always captured him because of its intersectional nature – environmentalism, economic, and racial justice. In his capacity as a summer fellow at the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, Tim hopes to learn more about what goes into advocacy, be it through canvassing or devising legislation.

Elodie Weinman

Elodie is thrilled to join Tri-State Transportation Campaign to create positive change in communities and the environment. During the school year, Elodie is a senior at Fordham University Rose Hill campus pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Environmental Studies and a double minor in English and Peace and Justice Studies. She has worked in the environmental field focusing mostly on advocacy, clean-up, and environmental justice. This summer, she will delve into transportation systems and policy and continue to pursue her interests.
